The first parish meeting for this Universalist congregation in Somerville was held in 1881. In 1886, the Third Universalist Church in Somerville was established. In 1925 these church and parish organizations merged. The name of the church was changed from the Third Universalist Church in Somerville to the West Somerville Universalist Church in 1927.
